Oil Pulling: Days 3-8 And A Tooth Powder Recipe

On the 3rd day of oil pulling, I noticed that the taste in my mouth wasn’t nearly as bad as the day before.  It hasn’t been that bad since!  I’m thankful for that because Day 2 was so nasty!  I haven’t examined my tongue because I think tongues are gross, even my own.  It’s the only part of my herbalist course that I’m dreading even though it fascinates me…tongue reading & diagnosis.  Uuuggghh!!!  TONGUES ARE GROSS!!

I’ve been adding a minute a day, today I swished for 12 minutes.  I haven’t noticed any improvements.  Except that my gums look a bit pinker.  I noticed that yesterday afternoon.

I’m not ill but I do have some chronic conditions, so I never really feel GREAT.  I’ve been in constant pain (seriously, all day long, every day for over a year & nothing helps.  Chiropractic & acupuncture relieve the pain for several hours but it’s back by the end of the day).  I have nerve damage in the coccyx area & the problems that go with that, including the organs & functions that those nerves control; anemia, while not chronic, it is a problem.  I can go years w/o it but it comes back & sticks around for various lengths of time.  I take Floradix Iron + Herbs which helps ever so much more than iron pills; unexplained palpitations – tests, xrays, etc come back normal, caffeine intake doesn’t make a difference; & I think that’s it.  I don’t see how oil pulling will help with these things but it can’t hurt.  I’m curious about what it will help.  If it’s just oral health, I’ll be happy with that.

Other than my gums & the taste in my mouth, I haven’t noticed anything different.  I feel the same.  I look the same.  I haven’t gained or lost weight.  My teeth aren’t whiter.  But it’s early days. This article states it could take months to see any improvements, so I’ll keep oil pulling until I run out of coconut oil.

Oh!  Here’s the tooth powder recipe I was supposed to share last week:

1/2 cup bentonite clay
2 tablespoons baking soda
3 teaspoons ground cloves
3 teaspoons Super Sweet (stevia sweetener for those who don’t like stevia)
20 drops peppermint essential oil (I used about 30 drops)

Put ingredients in a container with a lid & shake (I used a half-pint Mason jar). You can mix it in a bowl, mug, whatever the ingredients fit in. Wet your toothbrush then put a dab of coconut oil (or toothpaste, if you don’t have coconut oil) on the bristles. Sprinkle the tooth powder on (I use 1/8-1/4 teaspoon) & brush as you normally do.  The cloves will make your bristles brownish & when you spit, it will be brownish.
