I found this cleaner recipe on Pinterest. You fill a quart jar with orange peels, then pour white vinegar in, seal & let sit for 10 days. I used a pint jar because that’s all I had.
The original pinner says it smells great. The first time I used mine, it smelled more like vinegar than oranges. Today, 4 days after, it smells a bit more orangey. Still, the dominant smell is vinegar. But I’m used to cleaning with vinegar, so it doesn’t bother me. I’m hoping the orangey smell will continue to develop.
It cleans really well, though! As well or better than any store bought natural cleaners I’ve used. I’ve got another jar of orange peels & vinegar steeping 🙂
How do you use it? Do you transfer it or keep it in the jar and dip a cloth into it? Does the orange make it a better degreaser than plain vinegar? Can it clean windows?
Hi! I strained the liquid into a sprayer bottle. So far, I’ve cleaned my kitchen counters & dining table with it. Citrus oils are wonderful degreasers! I will try windows & mirrors today & let you how well the cleaner worked 🙂
I can’t wait! I have a few oranges starting to go bad. I will probably just squeeze the juice and drink it. You don’t know of any sort of cleaner I can make with the juice, do you?
I think the juice would be too sticky to clean with. You can freeze the cubes in an ice tray & use them in smoothies 🙂
OO that’s a good idea too!
The orange-vinegar cleaner works great on windows & mirrors! It smells less vinegary today 🙂
That’s great! I can’t wait to try it! Does it clean the windows any better than plain vinegar? I usually clean with plain vinegar and scent it with whatever essential oils I have lying around.

I am going to try this with some soon-to-go-bad oranges! I love homemade cleaners!
